They consist of two girls and two boys, and they are all members of archeology club. "I turned. A young woman was standing at the back of the church. She was dressed in old-fashioned black clothes - clothes of sixty years ago. A large, old-fashioned bonnet covered her face. She raised her head and looked at me. The young woman's face was white and very thin. How ill she looked!" (p. 11)      The main character of this book is Arthur Kipps who works in London as a solicitor and he tells his experiences in the story. One day, he had to attend a funeral instead of his boss and went to Eel Marsh House stuated in Yorkshire. The house was a dead woman's one and people did not get closer it because something strange occurrences happened around it. When he attended her funeral, he saw a woman who wears a black cloth that looked old-fashioned and her face was white and her eyes looked scary. He asked people around him about the woman but nobody answered it and faces of them stiffed of it, too. He started to stay at the house to find some papers for his bu
